Last weekend, BUE hit the road for a special field trip to Cooking with Omi! 🥘🇵🇷

We started the experience with some delicious bites from Ponce and The Marinated Kitchen, enjoyed a quick Medalla 🍺, and then it was time to meet the amazing Omi!

We got to watch her make sofrito from scratch, hear her share her love of Puerto Rican food and culture, and even walk away with an exclusive copy of her book featuring the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture Book Award seal — AND Omi’s signature! 📖✨

And of course… we got pictures! 📸😍

A special ¡GRACIAS! to the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture for hosting this wonderful event and creating a space where our community can celebrate, preserve, and connect with our culture. 🇵🇷❤️ The museum is the only accredited Puerto Rican museum in the United States, making experiences like this even more meaningful!

And we couldn’t head home without one more Puerto Rican food stop! 😋🇵🇷 Shoutout to Buen Provecho Food Truck for hooking us up with some delicious sofrituras for the ride home. Because obviously… the field trip needed a food encore! 😂🔥

From sofrito to sofrituras, books to pictures, and lots of laughs along the way — it was a day filled with food, culture, community, and orgullo Boricua. 🇵🇷💙❤️🤍

We want to sincerely apologize for the delay in communicating with our ticket holders, vendors, performers, sponsors, and supporters following the cancellation of BoricuaFest.

We understand the frustration and disappointment, and we hear you.

The past two weeks have been spent exploring every possible option—not simply relying on the standard no-refund policy stated with ticket purchases and vendor applications, but looking for meaningful ways we could give something back to the community.

We are now ready to share several options we’ve been working on, and a detailed communication has been emailed to all ticket holders and vendors.

We know the wait has been difficult, and we truly appreciate your patience, grace, and continued support. BoricuaFest was created for our community, and we want to handle this situation with the same care and commitment that went into creating the event in the first place.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make this right.

It is with profound disappointment that we announce the cancellation of BoricuaFest due to the forecast of severe and inclement weather.

This was an incredibly difficult decision. For the past seven months, an amazing team of dedicated volunteers has poured countless hours of hard work, passion, and love into bringing BoricuaFest back after a 15-year hiatus. We know how much this event meant to our community, and we share in your sadness.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every volunteer, vendor, sponsor, community partner, and entertainment act who believed in this vision and committed their time, talent, and resources to making BoricuaFest a reality. Your support has been nothing short of extraordinary, and we are deeply grateful.

While this morning’s news is heartbreaking, our commitment to celebrating and preserving Puerto Rican culture remains stronger than ever. This is not the end of BoricuaFest; it is simply a pause.

If severe weather conditions such as lightning, high winds, or other hazardous conditions are expected, we will make any necessary adjustments to ensure everyone’s safety.

To provide the most accurate information possible, we will make our official determination by 6:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, and communicate any updates immediately across our social media channels.

This past Wednesday was one we’ll never forget.

We began the day at Elgin City Hall as August 1, 2026 was officially proclaimed Puerto Rican Day in the City of Elgin—a meaningful recognition of our culture, our history, and our community. Thank you❣️

We ended the day celebrating another incredible milestone as Culver’s of Elgin presented Boricuas Unidos de Elgin with a check for $1,054 from our recent fundraiser. To everyone who ordered and enjoyed a meal—thank you! 🍔🍦

This past Wednesday was one we’ll never forget.

We began the day at Elgin City Hall as August 1, 2026 was officially proclaimed Puerto Rican Day in the City of Elgin—a meaningful recognition of our culture, our history, and our community. Thank you❣️

We ended the day celebrating another incredible milestone as Culver’s of Elgin presented Boricuas Unidos de Elgin with a check for $1,054 from our recent fundraiser. To everyone who ordered and enjoyed a meal—thank you! 🍔🍦

Moments like these are only possible because of the amazing people, businesses, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who continue to believe in our mission.

Together, we’re not just planning a festival—we’re building a stronger, more connected community.
